Current Exhibit

Our latest exhibit, High Point’s Furniture Heritage, examines the history of the relationship between the furniture industry and the people of High Point. The exhibit offers a unique perspective on the history of furniture manufacturing in our area. It includes interactive elements, video, photographs, memorabilia, machinery and furniture.

The exhibit focuses attention on the furniture industry as a key element of the city’s growth and prosperity. This exhibit, funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, documents this important industry in North Carolina.

High Point University Exhibit
High Point University has experienced tremendous growth and change over the past few years, but the school, founded in 1924, has much more of a story to tell. The High Point Museum details the rich history of the university in a new exhibit, which will remain on display through Dec. 31.

The exhibit, created by Tracy Anderson, HPU media relations coordinator; David Bryden, HPU director of library services; Chad Christian, HPU director of photography services; and freelance photographer Bill Parrish; details the 85-year history of HPU in four sections – "High Point College: The Beginning," "The College Years: 1930s to 1980s," "Extraordinary Transformation: From College to University" and "HPU: Looking Toward the Future."

Included in the display cases are historic High Point College/High Point University items, such as the original groundbreaking trowel, the first yearbook, a freshman beanie, early campus maps and aerial photos, athletic memorabilia, books written by faculty members and other items that show the spirit of the school.

Also included in the display is part of a memory book that details High Point students in the service. By the end of World War II, 753 cadets had studied at the university, where Civil Air Patrol training took place.
